Job Description

Payroll Operations – Gauteng

Reference: 58437

We are seeking a Payroll Operations Partner to manage a portfolio of steady-state payrolls for smaller, low-complexity entities. This role suits a payroll professional who values accuracy, structure, and consistency and who is comfortable operating in a repeatable, well-controlled payroll environment.

Fluency in Afrikaans or Dutch is a strict requirement for this role. Candidates without full professional fluency will not be considered.

Key responsibilities

  • Full operational ownership of multiple routine payrolls for smaller entities
  • Coordinating payroll inputs and ensuring accurate, on-time submission to outsourced payroll providers
  • Reviewing payroll calculations, validating outputs, and approving final payroll runs
  • Managing recurring monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll reporting
  • Overseeing statutory deductions, third-party payments, and mandatory benefits processing
  • Responding to payroll queries from employees and internal stakeholders, including in Afrikaans or Dutch
  • Supporting payroll audits by preparing data and responding to audit requests
  • Maintaining payroll procedures and documentation to ensure consistency and compliance
  • Partnering with Finance on payroll postings, reconciliations, and funding requirements

This is a steady operational role, focused on reliability and precision rather than high-complexity or transformational payroll work.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in payroll operations, ideally within a shared services or outsourced payroll model
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple small, low-complexity payrolls concurrently
  • Strong working knowledge of payroll legislation and statutory compliance
  • Comfortable working with HR and payroll systems (experience with Workday and/or SuccessFactors is advantageous)
  • Highly organised, detail-oriented, and dependable
  • Able to work independently, manage fixed deadlines, and maintain consistent delivery

Language requirement (mandatory):

  • Fluent in Afrikaans or Dutch (spoken and written) – this is essential
  • Strong professional English communication skills
