Facilities / Property Management

👤 Reports To: OHS Manager / Regional Operations Manager

 

Purpose of the Role

The OHS Practitioner ensures compliance with health and safety legislation, policies, and procedures across a national property portfolio. The role focuses on risk management, audits, and implementing safety systems to protect employees, tenants, contractors, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

⚖️ Compliance & Risk Management

  • Implement and monitor OHS systems in line with legal requirements
  • Conduct risk assessments, site inspections, and audits
  • Ensure compliance with the OHS Act, COID, and other legislation
  • Investigate incidents, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions
  • Escalate non-compliance issues to management

📚 Training & Awareness

  • Develop and deliver OHS training programs and awareness campaigns
  • Organize seminars, webinars, and onboarding safety sessions
  • Update training materials in line with legislative changes

🗂 Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain records of inspections, incidents, and compliance activities
  • Compile and manage Health & Safety files for projects
  • Prepare monthly and ad-hoc reports for management

🤝 Stakeholder Engagement

  • Liaise with HR, Facilities, Operations, and external contractors
  • Provide expert advice and mentorship on OHS matters
  • Attend Department of Labour inspections and inquiries

Candidate Profile

A qualified OHS professional with experience in facilities, property management, or construction. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of leading safety initiatives across multiple sites. Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills are essential.

Qualifications & Experience

  • SAMTRAC / HIRA / NEBOSH / OHS Certificate or equivalent
  • 3–5 years in OHS, preferably in facilities, property management, or construction
  • Experience with electronic business management systems and OHS audits

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong analytical and risk assessment skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Leadership and mentorship capabilities
  • Proficiency in MS Office and safety management systems
  • Ability to recommend and implement technical solutions
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with SANS standards and hazardous materials handling

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license
  • SACPCMP registration (preferred)
  • Willingness to travel to sites across South Africa
