Job Description

Purpose of Role: The Safety Officer supports Lesedi Nuclear Services’ mission to uphold safety and quality as core values. This role ensures compliance with Health & Safety regulations across assigned projects, develops and maintains SHEQ systems, identifies training needs, and ensures safe site operations in line with the OHS Act. The officer liaises with internal teams and external stakeholders including Eskom, Renewables, and government departments.

🔍 Key Performance Areas

Regulatory Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure full compliance with OH&S Act and client safety standards
  • Maintain accurate safety documentation and records for audits
  • Generate and update impact/aspect registers for site activities

Safety Monitoring & Reporting

  • Monitor site activities for safety plan compliance
  • Produce weekly safety reports and document audits
  • Report subcontractor compliance and issue deviation reports

Incident Management

  • Administer incident reporting and investigation systems
  • Manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and corrective actions
  • Maintain legal documents and statutory registers

Subcontractor & Vendor Oversight

  • Monitor subcontractor safety compliance
  • Review safety documentation and assess contractual changes
  • Ensure adherence to project safety standards

Training & Development

  • Conduct SHE training and safety inductions
  • Identify HSE training needs and coach teams
  • Support development of safety competencies

Audit & Quality Assurance

  • Perform internal audits and support external inspections
  • Liaise with clients for review audits
  • Recommend updates to SHE plans and documentation

🎓 Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Certificate/Diploma in Safety Management
  • SAMTRAC or NEBOSH certification
  • SACPCMP Registration
  • ISO auditing certification (ISO 9001, 14001, OHSAS 45001)
  • Experience in Construction Regulations and H&S training

💼 Experience

  • 3–5 years in a Safety Officer role
  • Experience on large civil engineering sites
  • Proven track record in safety compliance and auditing
  • Skilled in incident investigation and regulatory management
