Job Description

KWV – Team Leader: White Wine (Permanent, Paarl, Western Cape)

Reporting to: Senior Winemaker – White Wine Location: Paarl Department: Wine Cellar Division: Operations

Purpose

Oversee all white wine cellar activities, including MCC, ensuring tasks are distributed, executed, and completed according to company policies. Guarantee wines meet specifications for quality, style, and price point. Ensure food-safe, compliant products are delivered with integrity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan cellar activities with Winemakers.
  • Execute cellar operations per procedures and policy.
  • Distribute tasks and provide clear guidelines to staff.
  • Monitor work orders, ensure completion, and submit samples.
  • Follow up on analyses (SOâ‚‚, DO, COâ‚‚) per Winemaker specifications.
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards.
  • Oversee wine offloading per procedure.
  • Manage administrative tasks (samples, Kronos).
  • Address ullaged wines proactively.
  • Organize transport for casual staff.
  • Lead MDWT meetings and log monthly Safety Toolbox talks.
  • Apply 5S principles.
  • Create and track SAP maintenance work orders.
  • Manage chemical storeroom and ensure adequate supplies.
  • Uphold health and safety standards.
  • Hold team and one-on-one meetings.
  • Conduct performance reviews, recruit, train, and discipline staff.
  • Encourage questioning, improvement, and knowledge sharing.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12.
  • 1–3 years supervisory experience.
  • 3 years’ winemaking process experience.
  • SKOP 3/4 advantageous.
  • Computer literacy (SAP exposure preferred).
  • Knowledge of HACCP, BRC, IPW, Wieta, ISO.
  • Technical knowledge of winemaking and machinery.
